Bastav
Thought I'd share a project I've been working on as part of the winter build off challenge over at that other bass forum. The challenge was to use mainly walnut. I looked at the pile I had handy and decided to build something inspired by the wingbass concept (basically a headless 34'' bass cut off at the 12th fret). So here we go. First of, wood pile and design More puzzle pics
Bastav
After a lot of glueing (wings not attached to the neck yet) Clamping shot! (wouldn't be a build thread without at least one)
Bastav
Here it is with the veneers in place and just about ready to glue it up
Bastav
Here's the china bridge to be used I took it apart cause I wasn't crazy about the overlord of music-logo. Decided to raplace that with a bit of wood to match the fretboard. with a bit o sanding and now you're pretty much caught up

Andyjr1515
Excellent. I love the lines - and that walnut is just beautiful
Bastav
Thanks all! Today was glue up day. One wing... ... two wing... ... one piece!
Bastav
Also, here's the sidedots. The idea, to have the dots halfway visable, didn't work as well as I had thought so I added dots for frets 3, 5, 7 and 12. It works and doesn't look too bad but if I was to do it again I would try something else.

Bastav
Finalized the shape and did some shaping of the heel. Also cut some knobs and made a pickup cover but I made a small router boo-boo. Will need to cover that up.
RichardH
How do you fix the knobs to the pots? Do you just rely on pushing them on to the spline, or have you managed to source some inserts?

I'm just going to drill for a set screw to keep it in place.

SpondonBassed
I've never seen one of these before so not only am I blown away by the craftsmanship, I am intrigued by the Wingbass idea itself. Not too much different to a uBass, I suppose?
TheGreek
Check the last SE Bass Bash for photos of Ped's. Very impressive little thing...

The wing is also tuned one octave above the ubass (which is tuned like a regular bass).
Bastav
And I think it's time for a mockup with (almost) all the bits in place.
