ped Posted March 15, 2018 Posted March 15, 2018 Looks great! I’ve probably missed it but what scale length have you got here and how many ‘frets’ Quote
Andyjr1515 Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 It's ended as good as it started. Stupendous! Quote

I looked at the pile I had handy and decided to build something inspired by the wingbass concept (basically a headless 34'' bass cut off at the 12th fret). Quote
blablas Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Looks fantastic but I don't like the short scale. With this scale it's not really a true bass. Quote
Bastav Posted March 16, 2018 Author Posted March 16, 2018 Thanks all! Yes 17 inch scale with 12 frets. Half of a true bass Quote

Thanks - yes I knew that but I know other people make these 'half sized' basses with varying actual scale length, depending on, I suppose, what you divide in two. Also the proportions of yours look different because I've got 17 frets. Looking forward to more pictures! Quote

blablas Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Don't see that trying happening very soon, I'm a lefty! And to build one just to find out if I like it, or not, feels a bit like a waste of time to me. 1 Quote
blablas Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 17 inch! I can always put a capo at the 12th fret on a 'normal' bass. But this will spoil the advantage of having a small instrument! Quote

Bastav Posted March 19, 2018 Author Posted March 19, 2018 (edited) And I recorded a track with it this morning. Just a bit of a jam with myself. Main bass line is recorded via an octave pedal and my roland microcube (mic'd) to give an idea of the sound this travel-sized rig makes. Then I lined the bass au naturel for the solo. ped Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 Lovely looking thing. I love the colour of the walnut (one of my favourite body woods, for sound and look). You must be mega chuffed with it. Congrats. Quote

SpondonBassed Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 That's outstanding! You made a good decision to replace the bridge cover with wood. Not only does it look better but you have an additional advantage. On a cold day in the woodshed, so to speak, it will be more comfortable for palm muting. With the Steinberger bridge, that heavy wad of metal chills the hand somewhat otherwise. Quote
Norris Posted March 19, 2018 Posted March 19, 2018 That sounds pretty good. I bet it's a great sofa noodler Quote
