The craftmaship was awful but the sound was OK. That's the important thing. If it sounds good, is comfortable to play and importantly - you like it, then that's your bass.

A cool bass for sure, but I don't like the split coil pup. A mid 50s Fender has to have a singlecoil pup. But that's just me, the vintage nut. Unfortunately... I went to try that bass, I ultimately went with a Bravewood my friend was selling, but it was very nice.

I'm sorry, I have a cold. Totally agree. My baseball bat 71 had a rounded vroom to the tone that I cant find in any modern P at all. Those fat old necks are 80% the tone IMHO. And if might add. If you ever see a Duncan Designed PU out of a VM P, snag it!. They sound big and bold.
Panos Bobolas
So I have to trade my USA 60th Anniversary Pbass with one of the following: a) Sting signature (JAP) b) Squier JV '82 (why they are so expensive!?) c) Mike Dirnt Signature (MEX) d) Classic 50s Precision (MEX) e) No trade or sell and just use Thomastik or LaBella flats Any thoughts? Maybe try La Bellas on your existing bass first, as that's the easiest option? Could well get you close enough. hooky_lowdown
La Bellas or Thomastik will give the fat Motown sound. If you want a little more of a Rock tone then D’Addario Chromes would be the way to go.
