Beedster Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Wateroftyne's rather nice tale here ...... ....and specifically his playing Video Killed the Radio Star with Trevor Horn, got me asking myself what would be the song I'd most like to play live with the original band/original member(s) in a decent venue in front of a decent crowd. I'm gonna have a think about it, in the meantime, any takers? 1 Quote
chris_b Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 I can't choose just one. . . . Spanish Moon with Little Feat, Cissy Strut with the Meters and Sex Machine with James Brown. Quote
Huge Hands Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Anything with Isaac Hayes (RIP), but specifically his version of "By The Time I Get To Phoenix" from the Hot Buttered Soul album, with the whole strings and brass going on.... I love that track. Lovely slow groove with loads of dynamic shifts. Quote
Barking Spiders Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 These come to mind straight away Get Up For The Down Stroke with Parliament, more for chanting along with the rest of the band than owt else I Wanna Take You Higher with Sly ATFS - again it's joining in with the boom-shacka-lackas Quote
bartelby Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Ænima with TOOL could be quite fun. Brave Captain or Chemical Wire with fIREHOSE Quote
steantval Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Mr Big with Free, not possible now as two members are no longer with us, so it would be with Paul Rodgers and what ever his touring band is at the time. Quote

ead Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Assuming I had the talent, then anything from the Graceland album. Quote

AntLockyer Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 I'm still giving serious thought to the original question but the live gig I wish I was the bass player on would have been this Quote
ricksterphil Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 'Tales of Brave Ulysses' with the surviving members of Cream Still manageable in theory..... Quote

Funny that, I was going to suggest either Diamonds or Under African Skies, but I suspect if I were being really honest it would be something like December '63 or The Night by Franki Valli, both tracks that got me into bass in the first place. Would kinda like to do Suspicious minds with Elvis' 68 band also Quote
mikel Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Close to the Edge, with the original Yes. Minus the bass player, obviously. 1 Quote
itsmedunc Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 White Man in Hammersmith Palais, The Clash. Quote
Steve Browning Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Torn between Bohemian Rhapsody and the proper (full) live version of Sultans Of Swing. I bet those opening Bb's caused a draught through that Acoustic rig of John Deacon's. 1 Quote
Geek99 Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 I too would choose suspicious minds. @Beedster Also Folsom Prison Blues with Johnny Cash - I totally flew playing this alone with an acoustic guitarist and it would just be ace playing this with Johnny Cash if he were less dead. Crowd went mental. Quote
NickD Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Either Sunscape or Space Between Your Ears with Ozric Tentacles. Quote

Unless I wanted to stand next to Chris, and play note for note, he would have to sit that song out. As would every other bassist on the songs people have chosen. I think we are all aware when Mr Squire died. Its a fantasy thread, dont start getting literal. Quote
T-Bay Posted February 20, 2018 Posted February 20, 2018 Tilted with Sugar, but God save the Queen, the pistols and teen spirit, Nirvana would be very very close. Quote
