BrunoBass Posted April 8, 2018 Posted April 8, 2018 How do you find those Wilkinson pickups? I’ve just bought some of the ceramic ones (as opposed to alnico) for a project. They get good reviews, hence why I chose them, but I’m interested in what you think? Quote
la bam Posted April 8, 2018 Author Posted April 8, 2018 Ive found them very good. Certainly no need to change them for anything. They are powerful and respond well to the tone control, but id say theyre more modern clear sound than a vintage p bass sound - although ive just re strung it with lightweight d'addrio strings, so theyve loads of life in them. They really do kick and have good punch to them. Theyre not so much a warm growly sound, like youd get from a jazz, but more a true representation of how your bass sounds acoustically. Obviously though, you can colour with your amp and effects. Theres some great videos on youtube showing people using the v4 in action to give you an idea. Quote

la bam Posted November 8, 2019 Author Posted November 8, 2019 (edited) Just an update on this. We did a bit of recording a year ago in our guitarists house - just a one take then mixed. No frills etc. Using a vt bass rack preamp and rotosound 77 flat wounds. You can hear the bass clearly if you put the headphones on, obviously not as much without. For a £200 bass I think its recorded well. https://www.queenesque.co.uk/queen-tribute-music Edited November 8, 2019 by la bam 1 Quote
