bcbass
I really love my USA deluxe Jazz bass,it's from 2004(ser.DZ3xxx) and there is no switch for passive mode if you want it,like those new ones.Think this could be very useful, and thinking to instal one.Question is, will be any volume drop while changing from active to passive? Can't find any topic about this, only on Talk bass is something to read about.Has anyone done this little mod and what is outcome? Thank you for any input! Edited March 6, 2018 by bcbass
roman_sub
Active preamps normally do boost the onboard volume, even at 'all knobs flat' - so would expect some volume loss, yes. Not sure how this would work with this specific circuit though. It's manageable on my MIA precision deluxe (2012) but no idea if that's the same circuit as what you have.... BrunoBass
My Deluxe Jazz has the factory fitted switch and yes, there is a noticeable drop in volume when selecting passive.
bcbass
Thank's guys, but, still will be working in passive mode without batteries, right?
BrunoBass
Yes. I change my batteries regularly but it’s reassuring to know that if a battery fails mid gig it won’t result in no signal, which happened to me once with my Stingray.
