SOLD - Fender Japan 75 Jazz natural ash/rosewood £700

As mentioned in my other bass sale, I’m having to move house and need to raise funds for deposits and other boring stuff so need to sell a couple of things.

Next up is a Japanese Fender 75 Jazz reissue. It’s a three-piece body. Weighs 4.7kg.

In the interests of full disclosure, I got this on basschat last year, sadly from an unscrupulous seller (hopefully now banned) who misdescribed its condition, so I took it to Jon Shuker and got him to do a full setup, fix the loose wiring, replace the jack with a new Switchcraft one and replace the bridge with a new Fender Badass-style high-mass one. Got him to level and dress the frets, oil the fretboard and fill in and level a lacquer chip. It’s now in great shape.

There is still a bit of oxidisation on the pickup screws and pole pieces but nothing which affects functionality. There are a couple of lighter lacquer dimples and a scratch. See photos.

The finish on this bass is great, the neck pocket is a nice, snug fit. Lovely rosewood board and mother of pearl blocks. Truss rod is fully functional.

Sounds nice and snappy, probably partly due to the round laminate as opposed to slab rosewood board. Is fitted with a just-nicely-worn-in set of 45-65-85-105 Rotosound steels (made me fall in love with roundwounds after years playing only flats).

The neck profile is fantastic - better than the chunkier 74 profile, in my opinion. 7.25” radius.

Comes with the Hiscox case pictured. The velvet is loose over the storage flap (see photo). There’s a bit along the metal seam which doesn’t quite close fully. It’s secure for carrying but may not be watertight. See last picture.

Would prefer pickup from Sheffield or I might be able to deliver on the train as I don’t mind combining a visit to friends with delivering the bass. I’m due trips London and Bath soon.

If we end up going down the postage route then it’ll be about £50 going via UPS premium fully insured.

I got to play this bass yesterday, the set up is sweet, a real easy player it just lets you do your thing.

(Ben came to buy my Sterling so I wasn’t expecting him to take this too; I let him play it to make a comparison of neck radii and to try out some octavers (which work better on neck pickups).)
