Dubs Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 (edited) Any advantage for having 6 neck screws over 4? The answers here may change my build plans… EDIT: As in 4 screws - Or 6 screws - Edited November 19, 2008 by benwhiteuk Quote

yorick Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 depends how deep the neck pocket on the body is and how long the heel of the neck is. Precision type four bolt..... Extended, six bolt. Just my opinion! Quote

yorks5stringer Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 My 5 String Jazz type build with Jon Shuker is 4 screws plus neckplate: my G&L 5 String has 6 screws and no neckplate. The G&L is thicker wood so as said earlier has deeper neck pocket. Why not just do a neck-through instead? Quote
neepheid Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I'd agree that it depends upon the size/shape of the neck heel/pocket. If it's a fairly standard Fender sized thing then 4 ought to do. I suspect that 6 screws in a tight spacing might actually weaken the neck pocket, depending on the type of wood we're talking about here. Quote

GreeneKing Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I suspect that the ideal number of screws relates directly to the area of the neck pocket. Have you thought about fitting metal inserts in the neck and using set screws instead of wood screws? I did this to my Warmoth build and it's far more secure in the long term. Quote

Thanks for letting me know there’s another option Quote

Lfalex v1.1 Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 Both of those links made a compelling case for neck-thru basses! That said, I should imagine a N/T Ritter would still have the screws in it anyway.Just because. Quote
