Norris
https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/02/27/fender_smart_guitar_amp_dumb_security/ Quote Guitar amp manufacturer Fender's recently-introduced Mustang GT 100 guitar amplifier can made to play whatever audio an attacker fancies, security researchers have discovered. The amp allows Bluetooth connections, but without pairing security. Anyone within range could therefore "stream arbitrary audio to it and hijack your amp output"
spencer.b
Thanks for the tip off, next time I see one on a gig I'll be blasting out the birdie song mid tune
Roger2611
I always wondered about this with in ear monitors, could someone tune into the same frequency and share "The Birdy Song" with them midway through a song!

TorturedSaints
Can the vulnerability be used to turn the guitarist down mid-gig? If so, that's useful! 1
yorks5stringer
Does it only work with Blues? What about something Spooky?
dannybuoy
I have on occasion connected to my home network via VPN when away from home and played The Birdie Song on the Sonos to entertain the wife!

Having just read the article properly, yes! Not only can you stream audio to it but you can also push presets without authentication... You could switch on an octaver and turn them into a bassist!
bazzbass
are people really TOO LAZY to connect a 3.5mm male to male cord between their phone and their amp?
Dad3353
Are people TOO LAZY to go beyond knee-jerk reactions and Luddite thinking..? Some, apparently, are TOO LAZY even to capitalise their sentences..! Just how LAZY can you get..? (Apologies offered for the SHOUTING, but it really is a bit rich..! )

sammybee
If you actually read the article, they say they have fixed the issue. Making this even less of a problem if indeed it ever were
TorturedSaints
Just now, sammybee said: If you actually read the article, they say they have fixed the issue. Making this even less of a problem if indeed it ever were To be fair, the original article didn't have the update saying that a software update would fix it. I did read it. But you're right, it's a non-issue now apart from the enduring ironic hope of wanting to turn the guitarist down without their knowledge/assent!
Max Normal
Nothing new, I remember valve amps always picked up the local taxi firm in my old local venue. Was very common for "just dropped at the Louis Armstrong" to blast out of the stage during a guitar solo....

Yes - although it's more entertaining to hijack mics instead.
