weepaul
Had this bass for nearly 20 years, and noticed the bridge at the back appears to be lifting from the body. Not to sure if I've smacked it off something or someone.......so was gonna get a new bridge. The current bridge is a Gotoh copy, 6 screw mounting, would a Hipshot Kickass do the trick ? And would it be a straight swap ? Cheers peeps.
gary mac
Is it not just a case of the screws becoming loose? If it is and there's nowt else wrong with the bridge, then perhaps get the strings off, remove the screws, pack the holes with cocktail sticks and glue, refit screws and strings. Good to go for another twenty years
weepaul
I think there may be a slight bend at the back of the bridge. Anybody recommend a good replacement ?
discreet
The Kickass, or at least the one I have, is a five-screw fitting. Would it not be best to replace like for like if you definitely need to replace It?
weepaul
I think the 4 string bridges are 5 holes and the 5 string bridges are 6. Thinking it maybe a bit to big.
weepaul
I may take the plunge. I don't think its gonna be a direct drop in. May have to fill & re-drill to mount this. Any tips on mounting a bridge from scratch ?

Any tips on mounting a bridge from scratch ? Make sure the overall length from saddles to nut remains the same. If you set the A and D to the middle of the travel and work from that length it will give a bit of leeway for any adjustments you may need. The string will never need to be shorter than the nominal full scale when setting intonation. They always adjust longer
Bigwan
Not to point out the obvious, but you can measure whether it'll work for yourself: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1574/0577/files/5K500.PDF?8765090250675003951

They always adjust longer On almost all of mine the E is longer than the A and D strings, which is why I do it that way. I would rather have a bit of adjustment either way than put all the eggs in one basket as it were. Edited April 4, 2018 by T-Bay
