Gustavo AZC
Hei ! I used my B3 from zoom like a preamp for my double bass, it works great ! not to much punch but still nice, I used a Shadow transducer system. Booster effect and delays in B3 ZOOM ar really god in combination with shadow pickup systems. But this is only (off course) my opinion. I used a GK MB150E
Jebri
Hi, thanks for sharing. I have tried many combinations in my search of the ultimate amplified acoustic bass in a portable setup. Combos, heads + speaker(s), preamp + combo, preamp+amp head+cabinet. I have been using a DPA 4099B in combination with a Gage realist for years now. I am using the vintage revolution Acoustic Box live II as a preamp combined with a Gallien MB150. This is still portable and provides an amplified acoustic sound which I am happy with. If I need more headroom I add an Aguilar SL112. For the gigs where a bass amp is provided I only bring my acoustic box preamp. I use the provided bass amp as a monitor on stage and line our either the amp or the acoustic box or/and mic the amp on stage and blend all at the PA. I have had issues with the PA output of my acoustic box but need to learn more about the box still. I have also tried a combination that works well which is a Marbass tube 800 with a Epifani UL 110 first generation. No acoustic control features on the mark bass but it works well and offers the blend of piezo and mic we usually have difficulties to find. These days I am looking for an even more portable solution so I came back to Acoustic Image products and trying the upshot in combination with my acoustic image live box and a Gallien MB 200 head, or upshot with Marbass tube 800. For now I found the Acoustic Image Clarus SL2 too expensive IMO but it presents attractive features so would love to at least try it. Otherwise I have tried my acoustic box with Aguilar TH500 + SL112 great. Acoustic box with Epifani UL502 + UL2 112 amazing. But none of the two are portable options. Phil Jones compact 4 and newer Epifani cabinets are also options but so far didn’t work for me sound wise. But all is a matter of taste. Best experience so far is when I can play totally acoustic. So may be just an external mic in front of the bass bridge Edited March 21, 2020 by Jebri
