It's supposed to look like the axis apparently and the full model will get a figured maple top, binding and some sweeeet finishes same as the axis. I'm not sure whether i like it or not right now, i'm not generally a fan of fat bodied basses, but i think it will look nicer when it's done. Here's sterling having a play I have to say i'm quite intrigued as to what those buttons do, a lot are thinking each is a pickup select and the bottom button is an active/passive switch then the 4 band bongo EQ, but what does that knob do that would be the blend? Dubs Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 interesting - don't know if I like it though. Do we know what the neck profile is likely to be? - Similar to a Sterling? Just a guess cos it looks nice and narrow. Quote

At's also supposed to have lightweight tuners with 4 wings so it's easier to tune and a smaller headstock so it balances properly. It looks rather interesting. Also apparently it's going to be available in H, HH, HSS and SSS i think they said. I may have missed some out too EDIT: the words from the man himself
This will be available is single H, 2 H (On the two H the bridge pick up will be where the sting ray and sterling is), HSS and SSS The neck profile will resemble a sterling the electronics will be based on the bongo with a few twists!!!!!!(All of you who liked the sound of the bongo but couldnt get used to it will be happy... There will be a passive component also
Edited November 19, 2008 by budget bassist Quote
phil_the_bassist Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 oooh.....that's Schmexy! I don't know why I like it, but it defo gets a Thumbs Up from me! It's got some wierd proportions, but...MMMMMMMMMMMM!!! Kinda like the way Fern Brittain would get one... Quote
Kev Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 (edited) i like it alot shame about the sterling type neck, but i love the pickup options Edited November 19, 2008 by BassManKev Quote
Machines Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I think I like it, but only with a solid colour and pickguard. Don't think i've seen that shape on a bass before - good work from EBMM. Quote

Sean Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Looks like Sterling's been dodging the pies of late. It looks short scale in that pic but I can't imagine for one minute it is. Does it have a name? Quote
Telebass Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 (edited) Oh no, don't like that (I know, surprise surprise...) Interesting to see those amps behind Sterling. IIRC, they were built by some Italian guy called Marco! Edited November 19, 2008 by Telebass Quote

Tait Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 i'd only like it in a nice solid colour methinks. white, with black binding would look good to me. or CAR, with white binding. all black with matching headstock would look good. i think i'd also prefer it with HH or just H, but then, i've never liked the way single coils look on musicman basses. they're so fat and with the big pole pieces they don't look right to me, im too used to the eight small pole pices either side of the strings on a jazz style pup. ped Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Looks 'wrong' to me but it may sound good... I thought the axis body shape was a prototype only and wasn't going to be final. I will read the thread and catch up! Quote
skankdelvar Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008
Looks like Sterling's been dodging the pies of late.
Blimey, I didn't know he was an old guy. (Like me). Oh, yeah, the bass. Meh. (Young person's word, I believe.) Quote

Merton Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 I like that. I even like it with the natural wood finish. Yum. Quote
The Funk Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 I quite like it - wouldn't mind an f-hole in there too. Quote
peted Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 The lines are pleasing, but I don't like it. There's more than a hint of Les Paul shape going on there. Quote
Douglas Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 This bass looks pretty promising, going to have to try one when they come out (might be waiting a while though!) Quote
lowdown Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 uumm... I will show my A**e in Woolworths if 1 week after the first Basschatter to buy one, Then turns up in Basses for sale... 'Feeler' 'Testing the water' FS/FT .... Garry Quote
The Funk Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 Would prefer a slightly larger headstock, I think. Quote

I've never even seen a sterling in a shop over here and only one bongo, i think you'll be hard pushed to find one! Quote
budget bassist Posted November 20, 2008 Author Posted November 20, 2008
I've played quite a few Sterlings in shops here and don't actively hunt them out. Bongos seem to be thinner on the ground. The new bass looks very promising. I like the shape and quite fancy an SSS fretless.
Damn, i must be looking in the wrong places Ever tried a bongo? awesome necks Quote
