hooky_lowdown Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 I’ve got gas for a cheap 60s mij full scale bass. I’ve been unable to replicate that 60s sound with my gear, so looking for a NBD. I know about brands like Teisco and Guyatone, but what other brand names are there? I’ve seen lots of short scale basses - but I’m looking for a full scale. Quote
bertbass Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 (edited) If you can find pages from a 60s Bells catalogue that will give you a good idea but a couple off the top of my head are Egmond and Top 20. Just thought of another one, Commodore. Edited March 9, 2018 by bertbass Just thought of another one, Commodore. Quote
BigRedX Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Have a look at The History Of Japanese Electric Guitars. However a quick skim through my copy hasn't revealed any that are obviously 34" scale. TBH part of that 60s garage band sound is short scale bass. Quote
hooky_lowdown Posted March 9, 2018 Author Posted March 9, 2018 Found this which lists nearly all brand names... https://drowninginguitars.com/2012/02/12/1960s-japanese-guitar-brand-name-game/amp/ Quote
Grahambythesea Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 (edited) I think you’ll find Egmond were short scale and European made. Top Tweny were unplayable beasts IMO, and I am not sure there Jap either. Edited March 11, 2018 by Grahambythesea Quote

KK Jale Posted April 1, 2018 Posted April 1, 2018 Hard to find! This Guyatone-made Kent is supposed to have a 33.5" scale, but I don't know the model number. Quote
