Pea Turgh Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 Hello chaps. I was watching the Mike Oldfield Tubular Bells documentary last night, and his Fender caught my eye, but I can’t determine the model. Could anyone oblige? Quote
ezbass Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 (edited) And damn fine basses they were too. That and the Stu Hamm sig bass were probably the best non ‘standard’ basses (P or J that it is) Fender made IMO. Edited March 10, 2018 by ezbass Quote

wateroftyne Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 Great basses. Custom shop quality - one of Fender's better crazy ideas. Quote
BreadBin Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 My dad worked for Mike Oldfield when I was young, I've played on his kettle drums! 1 Quote
Pea Turgh Posted March 10, 2018 Author Posted March 10, 2018 Cheers dudes! I like the non-standard standard look. Quote
Bigwan Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 I had a 5 string once upon a time - bought from here and sold here. One of the ones that got away. Awesome, awesome, awesome bass. Quote
Happy Jack Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 I had the fiver. Loved it to bits but the weight (> 11lbs) led me to sell it. I missed it so much that I bought another one. Loved it to bits but the weight (> 11lbs) led me to sell it. GAME OVER INSERT NEW COIN 1 Quote
el borracho Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 I like that. I came very close to buying a very nice looking one in Shoreline Gold a few years ago. I went for a G&L instead (which I still have) but always wonder if it was the right decision - one of many that got away. Quote
BreadBin Posted March 10, 2018 Posted March 10, 2018 (edited) Aargh! I don't need any more bass guitars but one of these just got added to my unicorn list. I remember looking at the bass in Mike's studio and thinking it looked amazing, that may have been one of the reasons I picked up the bass myself Edited March 10, 2018 by BreadBin Quote
wateroftyne Posted March 11, 2018 Posted March 11, 2018 Aaand... here was mine. It really light. It was lush. But I found myself running it in 'P' config 95% of the time, without ever quite sounding exactly like a P. so I sold it and bought another P. Quote
