MoonBassAlpha
Just bought a pair of mini humbuckers for a project bass. Once fitted, the one at the bridge sounds fine, but the one in the neck only has about half the output. They measure the same d.c. resistance, so I assumed the obvious, that one coil was reverse phase, so I flipped it, about the same, or slightly worse! It seems to have about the same magnetic pull as the good one. The pickups look similar to Hofner staple type, I wonder if there are 2 magnets inside, and one is the wrong way round? I haven't opened it up yet as the cover is soldered on, but it will probably come to that soon. Anything else I've not thought of?
MoonBassAlpha
Well, that was weird. I reverted the wiring, then started to desolder the cover, got bored, as i couldn't get enough heat into it, just hooked it all up again and, bingo! The output is up to what it should be. A small amount of wax had dripped out, maybe the magnetic circuit had been interrupted, who knows? I'm one happy bunny, as this simple project has been plagued by niggling issues at every turn! fleabag
There's nothing like answering your own questions I'll be doing the same in the K Ohms thread by the look of it !
