stewblack
Let's share our weird and wonderful ideas for making life that little bit easier in the world of bass. Even if they appear long winded and silly and actually use more effort than they save. I'll start: One of those over the door clothes hanger thingies available from all B&M, Poundland type outlets makes a great cable tidy. stewblack
Come on, this is the work of a genius. Surely. No?
musicbassman
Absolutely stewblack, no responses here just because we are all speechless......... ( Actually, must admit that is pretty neat! )
stewblack
Ha ha - I've amazed, confounded and baffled you with my Einstein like inventiveness
wateroftyne
It's not really tidy though, is it?
bassbiscuits
That's be good for all the headphones and trailing cables in my little quiet practice corner. Everyday genius there Stewblack. Take a bow sir.
ricksterphil
Great idea...there's something similar in the Pirate Studios we use, but it's hung on the wall. My man cave / practice / music room is usually a sh*t tip, so I'll be borrowing this one!
SH73
In my opinion it looks untidy. I prefer cables out of sight.
bertbass
A bit of a pain to take a door to every gig just to use it though! 2 1
stewblack
Look, tidy is a relative concept. My cables dangling from the door like that are 200% tidier than lying in a feckin' great tangled heap on the floor. Of course I now have nowhere to hang my clothes.

Furthermore with a person who appreciates the great ideas which have shaped our times. Like the electric light bulb, penicillin and my over the door cable tidy. 2
naxos10
I use one for hanging guitar straps on rather than rolling them up.
bassbiscuits
My role in my last band seemed to be chief onstage DIY man when equipment broke or fell apart (more often than you might think!) so I always appreciate simple but effective things like this! DaveFry
An expanding memory foam type earplug makes a good plug to keep dust from falling into the hole where the truss rod adjuster is on the NS Design electric uprights .
stewblack
Hey that's great. Why don't we expand this into a top tips and hacks thread for folk who enjoy finding curious solutions to bass related problems? Edited title and OP to reflect this. Yet another astounding idea. I'd better be careful my foot doesn't fall off. Edited March 16, 2018 by stewblack
ianrendall
The stitching on my leather strap, the only strap I have ever owned in my 20+ years of playing, was coming apart, so fixed with some nuts, bolts and washers. The bottom of my gig bag, the only gig bag I have ever owned in my 20+ years of playing, was fraying, so fixed with a small piece of wood and some strong glue

machinehead
OK, I'll mention the one that most folks know already, just in case someone doesn't - the rubber seal from Grolsch beer bottles make great strap-locks. I use them on all my basses. I see Fender are selling copies now at, if I remember correctly, £2.00 each!! Frank. 1
naxos10
I have put Velcro cable fasteners on my guitar leads. The other day instead of feeding the guitar lead through the gap between the guitar and strap I actually attached the velcro directly to the strap. It hangs more freely and does not rub on the finish of the guitar. If you use one at the amp end and have a carpet covered cab then the Velcro will 'stick' to the cab and can help prevent inadvertantly pulling the lead out (especially for those of us who are more active on stage). skankdelvar
A speaker cab laid on its back makes an attractive coffee table.
Dad3353
A speaker cab laid on its front, preferably on carpet, can allow a valve amp to be 'cranked' without 'bleeding ears syndrome'. 1
