MoonBassAlpha Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 (edited) Anyone on here going tonight? He's playing with Jean Luc Pontypridd and Bireli Legrene Edit Nah, I think I'll leave it like that - almost made coffee come out of my nose! Edited March 16, 2018 by MoonBassAlpha Autocorrect 1 Quote
fretmeister Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 I’d love to see him live. Work keeps clashing with his dates. metropolitain is one of my favourite albums. Quote
Hellzero Posted March 16, 2018 Posted March 16, 2018 Seen him twice : terrific fretless bass player, terrific fretted bass player, terrific double bass player, terrific musician. But you have to like more classical jazz. My wife and I really love the music he is making. "Time Pieces" is my favourite album to date. Quote
tom1946 Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 Is that Clint's son? He has one called Kyle anyway. Quote
Hellzero Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 Yes, he is one of the 365 children he has. Thanks to his father he fell in love with classical jazz music and the bass instruments when he was a child, going to lots and lots of concerts with his dad. He learned bass and double bass with Bunny Brunel, a friend of Clint. Quote
toneknob Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 Yep I was there - really enjoyed it. He's quite tall isn't he? Listening to Samba De Paris now, one of his songs from last night. Good stuff. Quote
toneknob Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 Nigel Kennedy was in the audience as well btw. Overheard him crack a "he'll never get that under his chin" gag at Kyle. 1 Quote
Hellzero Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 (edited) He is quite tall indeed. Did he play Big noise from Winnetka (he whistles the theme) ? I discovered him through the album Now, and immediately liked what he was doing. And now ( ) I have his 8 albums and my wife and I go out to see him when he is playing around, so twice only to date, sadly. Edited March 17, 2018 by Hellzero Whistles is better. Quote
toneknob Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 (edited) Don't recall any whistling songs. Rather than rely on my failing memory, setlist.fm to the rescue: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/ponty-eastwood-lagrene-trio/2018/barbican-hall-london-england-63efcac7.html Edited March 17, 2018 by toneknob Quote
Hellzero Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 He didn't play it. This must have been a great show with Jean-Luc PONTY on violin and Biréli LAGRÈNE on guitar (he is also a terrific fretless bass player and can play just like Jaco who has been touring with him : funny, no ?). Quote
MoonBassAlpha Posted March 22, 2018 Author Posted March 22, 2018 Thanks for that, i had no idea! I really enjoyed Barbican the concert. I thought Lagrene's note choices were more interesting than Ponty, though his playing was less precise. We were front row, with our own little Meyersound monitors right in front of us! Quote
