Marvin Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 I'm not sure my Squier P bass has the neck to take the tension of regular flatwounds. I was just wondering if anyone had any opinions and experience of using low tension flats and which ones would you fine people recommend? Ta Quote
funky8884 Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 I have La Bella 760FL's on my JV P bass and it has a slim neck and there are no issues, is there anything wrong with your squires neck ? if not a proper set up and a set of flats shouldn't be a problem. 1 Quote
EssentialTension Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 I've had flats of both higher and lower tenson on a Squier with no problem. I woudln't expect any problem. Quote
krismpos Posted March 18, 2018 Posted March 18, 2018 Thomastik Jazz Flats are known for their low tension and I can confirm that. Oh, and their tone gets better and better progressively. Quote

Marvin Posted March 29, 2018 Author Posted March 29, 2018 I've been looking at manufacturers sites and the tensions of strings varies quite a lot. Flats can be incredibly tense to under what my rounds are. I'm still pondering at the moment. Thank you for the advice, very appreciated Quote
The59Sound Posted March 29, 2018 Posted March 29, 2018 Flats are constructed differently to rounds but their tension is roughly the same (in the same gauge by the same manufacturer). What you think is high tension is a string that doesn't flex much, hence people assuming higher tension. 1 Quote
SH73 Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 I've had Steve Harris flatwound sig strings on Squier p bass no issues Quote
Grangur Posted March 31, 2018 Posted March 31, 2018 @Marvin What makes you think the Squier neck won't take the tension? Is there something you know we don't? Quote
