The59Sound Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 I don't think I've ever come across an OD/Dist. that keeps the 'woody' tone of a P or a J. You know when you're plugged in with nothing engaged and you can 'hear' that wood sound? No OD for me has ever kept that once engaged - am I alone in thinking this? Quote

Pow_22 Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 when I hear the old 70's woody but slightly fuzzy bass lines its not effects I think of its a combination of valves amps and inefficient speakers. Kinda that tone Blondie get on Dreaming? Just screams valve amp to me Quote
dannybuoy Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 I guess we have to define 'woody' first. To me, it means clean and warm so you can hear the natural tone of the instrument, so any kind of distortion is just going to blur that... I would probably suggest Darkglass Vintage due to the blend letting you mix in some smooth overdriven midrange on top of your clean tone. Quote
dave_bass5 Posted March 20, 2018 Posted March 20, 2018 Ive only just started to get a more woody tone since getting my Q/strip. Its amazed me how much variation in tone i can now get from a lowly passive P bass, even with OD engaged earlier in the chain. Quote
