Help with wiring to bottom of jazz PU

Hi

I have a couple of 4 pole jazz PUs but they have no wires on the bottom...they came off a mexican jazz deluxe.. I am adding a neck pick up as an experiment to an old P bass and these were lying around. Dead simple wiring..it will be volume only and has its own jack.

I just dont know where to solder hot and ground to the actual PU. The PU is wound in 2 sections..there is a solder tab on each corner...and a bridging plate that connects the 2 halves but both ends of the plate have solder points.

Anyone know where i should be soldering ground and hot too??

Cheers

This is only an educated guess but looks to me like the linked brass plates are there to ground the pole pieces and the two lugs at either end are hot and cold for each coil with the yellow wire going to the hot terminal as in pic below. This gives you a four-wire hook up with options for wiring the coils in series or parallel. I stand to be corrected!

Thanks for your quick response..much appreciated. That makes sense. The yellow wire links the 2 "Hots"  so is it possible to run a 2 wire lead to the volume pot..1 ground and one hot...i presume this would be series and a 4 wire would allow for parralel? Sorry if i have this wrong...happy with a sodering but its years since i did any wiring theory...lol..

Cheers

Ah, sorry I didn't realise the yellow wire joined the two diagonal lugs. Looks like that's just a jumpwire which hardwires the two coils in series then. Which means the two connecting points you need are as in pic below. Give that a try that and see if it works.

Hi..thanks again

I had already sorted it. I soldered ground to ground and hot to yellow at one end...this only gave me output to one side (which i still cant quite understand going on the way it is wired) so i fabricated a 4 wire loom..and hooked up all 4 corners..so 2 hot and 2 ground and its working a treat! It is now all back together and ready for melting some faces!!! This is not up to my usual high luthering standards (!) but i needed to get it up and running quick to see if the principle worked. Almost looks stock.

First issue is that i will need to eq the jazz PU as it is very bright compared to the PBass PU despite its position next to the neck. It is only there for deepness...this all started as we are covering Mr Big and the Winery dogs in a new band..but i also need to be able to run it without Mr Sheehans rather good distortion pedal for the Bonamassa/SRV stuff we are also doing.

It will be run biamped hence the 2 jacks..

Thanks for your help though...wouldnt have been brave enough to dive in with the wiring without your help...
