I've had this one for a few years, totally reliable, totally transparent. The tape is there to prevent me fumbling a cable into the wrong channel on a dark stage. If you like, I'll leave it there. No charge. The white fluffy stuff is actually velcro. Because the unit is deeper than most rackmount kit, it becomes feasible to use the rear section as a place to mount, e.g. a wireless receiver.
