Does anyone have any recommendations for good quality, interesting, informative, intelligent bass related Youtube video makers who do not conform to the typical, subscriber seeking, click attracting methods of the "Youtuber" crowd? The types of thing I'd like to avoid include clickbait titles, children and family members in videos, discussion of personal matters and the use of "guys" as a generic pronoun.

Or Guitar Interactive Magazine Premium if you have more 'specialist' tastes :D

Ha ha!! It actually took me a second to figure that one out! .. "In this month's issue, we are looking at zipped rubber masks..." lol

I think you missed 'gloves' off the list, too?

Seriously though, I feel that these should be mandatory guidelines for anyone posting videos on anything music-related.

I always find Joe Hubbard's videos more 'nutritious' than most, but I understand that his style is not to everyone's taste.

Bob Reynolds (saxophonist) has some great insights in his videos, but there's a lot of the aforementioned footage of family/driving to wade through to get to the good stuff.

Same with Janek Gwizdala. Loads of really great videos on all aspects of bass playing and musicianship, just have to sometimes be selective if you're not that interested in getting familiar with his gym regime or his tennis record.

Strangely, I see Janek as another clickbait YouTuber. You can watch a fair while and all you get is his life and his pushing to get you to $ub$cribe.

Unfortunately, he fails the no clickbait requirement.

Edit: And is most certainly a "Youtuber"!

Then you’re missing out on an incredible amount of fantastic info and insight.

Oh well :)

Absolutely ace and if I were to add some 'further reading' that is absolutely relevant to us bassists:

Aimee Nolte and Rick Beato are superb educators that cover everything from really simple musical techniques (I think the cool kids call them 'hacks') to an impressive display of full on mind melting theory. All wrapped up in a very watchable and engaging delivery.

Agreed, Janek's a terrific musician, but I think I gave up on the vlogs when he included a time lapse video of one of his therapy sessions.

It's tricky because I know that that's part and parcel of the 'vlog format' thing that he wanted to do so I can't really criticise him for it, but I just wonder how many of his viewers were there for the more personal stuff and how many would have just subscribed to the bass stuff if they could.

I see that Scott Devine has moved to a more 'vloggy' format as well so maybe it gets better view numbers, I wouldn't know. I guess it could be to try and push more people towards the SBL academy for more straight-ahead bass education stuff though.
