Blues lick tab question - what does this symbol mean?

Can anyone help with this? What does this curve symbol between the two 7's mean in a blues lick tab?

It's from a book I bought. In the accompanying audio example, it just sounds like a sustained note.

I've seen similar symbols between two different notes for hammer on, pull off, etc. But can't work out what it means between the same note.

Thanks.

With hammer-ons and pull-offs, the notes are obviously different. In those cases the curved line is not a tie but a slur, indicating a smooth movement from one note to the next (i.e. without re-picking).

Thanks very much, it's all starting to make sense!

I've just started with guitar after years playing bass in a band that recently split. It's been very satisfying noodling with the blues and pentatonic scales over backing tracks. I'm now trying to get some licks under my belt too.
