BreadBin
I have seen a professional percussion player make some incredible sounds with a triangle. He's the only one though.

Not exactly, more like really high speed playing with variable left hand muting creating a kind of phase/flange effect. Kind of like triangle through a Wah pedal. This guy is an amazing percussionist, possibly the best I have ever seen.

To be fair it's a role I know nothing about but I'm guessing that all orchestral triangle players are skilled in other percussion type instruments which they use in that orchestra? TheGreek
The fact that they have their own transport ("can you pick the drummer up?") may go in their favour...
SpondonBassed
To be fair, most of the seventies US detective dramas made good use of the triangle. Maybe Mrs Kaye dabbled between her bass stings...?

Yank
Some Zydeco bands make liberal use of a triangle. Other than that, mostly symphonic percussionists. You think it's easy counting 156 measures of rest and then coming in on exactly the proper quarter note written by some dead guy? Those guys deserve a medal.
