Jimothey Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 (edited) Whilst I’m waiting for some more paint to arrive to finish the 70’sP Bass I’m gonna get started on a new build I’m doing it out of sapele and pine again but slightly different to the ibby body build Its going to be pine backed with a couple of sapele lines in then sapele wings with pine in the middle, with soap bar closed pickups not sure what colour hardware Black or Chrome I’ll decide when I’ve made the body I’m going to buy the neck which is a eBay special maple/maple with blocks full paddle Edited November 27, 2018 by Jimothey 1 Quote

Better than either of those to me, it’s an interesting shape but not so far out that it would be awkward to play. Looking forward to seeing the progress on this. Quote

Looking forward to seeing the progress on this. I kept the other build quite conservative so I thought I’d try something a bit more interesting this time I’m going to be cutting and gluing up the blank tomorrow which might be fun with the offset waist as obviously I want the pine on top to be inline with neck and pickups I don’t know why but I feel this build needs a name but I can’t think of one at the moment suggestions please??............ Jimothey Posted April 29, 2018 Author Posted April 29, 2018 Template made and sanded...... Blank all cut and set out ready to glue up a bit later...... Here’s the top.... And here’s the back (it’s not quite centered but it’s just a rough guide).... 2 Quote

I like those colour combinations I had naff all to do at work this morning so I thought I’d crack on (and it does helps that I’m in a joinery shop tho) I’m just going to glue the blank up now Edited April 29, 2018 by Jimothey Quote
Jimothey Posted May 2, 2018 Author Posted May 2, 2018 Not much progress as I was out on site yesterday...... I made a minor alteration when I marked the template out (I thought that it need a little bit more meat where the top horn meets the body so I’ve made that about 10-12mm wider at the deepest point it’s only a tiny adjustment but I think it will make a difference aesthetically) before I started cutting the body I’ll finish cutting and sanding the body on Friday so I’ll probably post some more pics then 1 Quote
Jimothey Posted May 4, 2018 Author Posted May 4, 2018 (edited) Got the body all cut and sanded..... I should get the shaping done tomorrow, but I now need to wait till the neck and pickups arrive so I can make the router template hopefully they should be here by the end of the month......... Jimothey Posted May 5, 2018 Author Posted May 5, 2018 (edited) Got the top shaped and arm carve done, just got the belly carve to do tomorrow I wasn’t 100% happy with the top horn so I took a little bit off the bottom to thin it out a tad which I think looks better Edited May 5, 2018 by Jimothey 3 Quote

No need to raise the saddles to compensate if there is enough body to take the neck pocket and pickup cavities the same amount deeper. It makes the forearm rest look a bit uncomfortable though. The arm rest is ok I kind of play with my arm diagonal anyway as I find that more comfortable Got the first coat of poly on, I was going to go Matt but I think this one should be gloss and looking at my last build I’m going to refinish that one gloss as well when I move the bridge, Just in case anyone notices I’ve still got the clean up the bottom of the neck pocket.........
