ead
Folks a bit of help needed here. I have acquired a mid 90s MIM P bass which is most definitely red. Problem is I can't make up my mind which of the Fender pallette it is. I started off thinking it was Torino, but when I clapped eyes on the beastie I started thinking maybe it's Dakota, or indeed some of the other livelier reds. I think we can rule out Fiesta and CAR as it doesn't have that slightly metallicy look about it. I've done a fair amount of Googling but then you're relying on the laptop screen to assess colour representation, whether the bass was photographed in natural light or not etc. I thought if I could find out what Fender were using colour wise in Mexico in 95-96 that would be a start but I've drawn a blank so far. It may be the unanswerable question...but at the end of the day I guess it's not massively importand in the scheme of things. Anyway here's the mandatory pic, but I'm not sure what conditions this was taken under either.

Dood
Could this help? https://support.fender.com/hc/en-us/articles/214034783-Instrument-Finish-Color-Chart
ead
Thanks Dan, I found this but printed out the colours look different to the view on screen. When there are three maybe four reds that don't look too different it becomes quite a tricky thing. It's more about me being a bit of a pedant, as I guess you either like red basses or you don't
basshead56
I seem to recall there being a 'Torino Red' used on MiMs and Squiers in the 90's. Looks like it to me in that pic

There’s certainly an irony in a bunch of people on the Internet trying to help you figure it out by looking at their... screens! 😂

I saw that thread, and that put the Torino Red idea in my head. Did Fender put any kind of stamp in the neck pocket with a colour code? My Power Jazz Bass Special is supposed to be CAR but it's so much nicer than other CAR Fenders. My Ibanez guitar also is just a gorgeous rich red. I'm fussy!
