paul_5
I was involved in s car accident over a year ago and my left shoulder is still uncomfortable most of the time but especially after playing. What’s the best strap to avoid aggravating this condition when playing?
T-Bay
I have shoulder problems due to arthritis and use a strap from hypnotic straps, it’s 3” wide and very well padded. Despite my Gibson being the same weight as a boat anchor I don’t have issues.
stewblack
This one https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01I0BGYM8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 every time. I've tried tons and this is the best.

pbasspecial
I've had a comfort strap for over 20 years. Used to play a 1980 fender precision special. Great tone but weighed a ton. Can't recommend the strap enough.
Vinny
A knee! Or one of these if you can find one. (skip to about 90 seconds in where she plays in front of the window if you don't like the song!)

thebassist
Yes a Gruvgear duo is a great choice. Also maybe one of these? https://www.amazon.co.uk/SoloStrap-4-0-Inch-Guitar-Strap-Black/dp/B00V8299XS/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1526296667&sr=1-1-spell&keywords=gruvgeat+strap+

Al Krow
Variation on the theme - but I've added these to my straps and seem to work a treat: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01HRSKGP6/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=
TheGreek
There is a less expensive version of the DuoStrap available - I'll see if I can find the details.

I’ve got them on all of my basses - they’re the only strap I’ll use now.
Dan Dare
Try one of those rucksack type straps that goes over both shoulders. A pal, who has back/shoulder problems, swears by his.
Delberthot
I changed from a Stingray 5 to a Sterling 4 due to a shoulder problem I had. A wide padded strap can help but for me it's moving around as much as I can on stage as it moves the bass around your shoulder instead of it sitting at the one point all night
TheGreek
Modify something like this? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Strap-Soprano-Adjustable-For-Alto-Soft-Harness-Design-Shoulder-Saxophone/323232715595?hash=item4b422bd34b:g:UXQAAOSwI4xa4uIM Edited May 16, 2018 by TheGreek
chris_b
The best strap for a bad shoulder is the one that is attached to a lighter bass.

Thanks for the sensible advice though 😉

Would using two straps be a cheaper and functional alternative? First strap used in the rgular position, second strap comming from the horn through the left side of the torso, up the back through the right shoulder, down the front to the bottom pin... hummm, still sounds like a stupid idea... i shall try it at home!
