bassman1003 Posted April 4 Posted April 4 you’ll be able to email Sandberg. I had a question years ago when I wanted to know about drop D extender key. [email protected] cheers Quote

fretmeister Posted April 4 Posted April 4 Doh! Is yours a California 1? I think your numbering is correct. 4 is the only one with the right angle to put pressure on the sideways movement of the saddle and 5 seems to be aiming at the side of the bridge block to allow / prevent movement by the entire saddle unit. 5 isn't just intonation - it should be loosened off when doing height adjustments as well. uncle psychosis Posted April 4 Posted April 4 No its an electra VS4, I think one of the earlier ones that are Fender shaped Quote

Raslee Posted April 6 Posted April 6 (edited) Loving my Sandberg SL’s, my back and overall gigging stamina has vastly improved since going ultra lightweight. Despite some initial tonal reservations with the lighter bodies I have to say I am actually really digging the tone lots, especially in the live mix, great presence. Sadly the Custom Classic Booster on the far right will eventually be up for sale when I bring myself to it, its a real cracker yet despite only being 8lbs in weight, its just a little on the heavier side for me now...Guess this makes me a Sandberg SL convert! I'm a big SL fan too. They're XSL when they're short-scale like mine 🙂 6 Quote

whynot Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Thought I'd share a photo of my 32.5 scale lefty Sandberg. I'm not the original owner. Lovely slim neck and reasonably lightweight. 5 Quote
ead Posted Wednesday at 14:24 Posted Wednesday at 14:24 Have you good people clocked these basses? Looks like a limited (ish) run for Thomann's 70th anniversary. Good looking beastie and maybe give the Sire Z7 a run for its money? https://www.thomann.co.uk/sandberg_electra_tm_ef_mh_sb.htm 3 Quote

My spring balance showed it at 2.2 kg, which is definitely not right, so I found a way of adding another 2kg to the bass - and got 4.2kg total. Next attempt involved me standing on our digital bathroom scales without and then with the bass. The difference was 2.7kg, which could be about right. If I had to guess based on experience, I'd say around 3kg. Anyway, for a bass it's definitely Super Light 🙂 Edited Wednesday at 17:19 by scrumpymike 1 1 Quote
BassApprentice Posted Thursday at 16:56 Posted Thursday at 16:56 I don't doubt the quality and the sound, but those SL must feel so weird at first. 2.2kg or 2.7kg is ridiculously light! Quote

Funnily enough it felt - and still feels just right, quite robust and in no way flimsy, and perfectly balanced on the strap. Not sure if you can actually feel quality, but that's what I'm feeling. The Plek'd neck is an absolute delight. Neither of my weighing methods is particularly accurate. Spring gauges work best in the middle third of the scale and the bathroom scales give slightly different readings depending on how you stand on them. I'd say the real weight is somewhere between 2.7 and 3kg. OK, I think I've beaten that one to death 🤐 Quote
fretmeister Posted Thursday at 18:09 Posted Thursday at 18:09 I weighed mine on kitchen scales. Quote
BabyBlueSound Posted Thursday at 18:47 Posted Thursday at 18:47 Thanks guys, now I'm itching to know mine's weight... but we have a guest staying over and the bass is tucked away in it's bag in the upstairs closet... to be continued! 1 Quote

Lozz196 Posted Friday at 10:55 Posted Friday at 10:55 I’ve bitten the bullet and contacted Mark at Classic And Cool Guitars re a Lionel Superlight. Had a band practice last night, used a sub 8lb Precision and back is sore today. That tells me invest in a very light short scale. 6 Quote

We tend to have 6hr rehearsals but only 3-4 a year but my back aches after approx 3-4hrs into it. We do stop for a break after 3hrs and have a coffee and sandwich kind of thing. And that's using my VM4 which is my lightest bass. I'm fine with gigs tho, even the longer 2.5hr gigs. Dave 1 Quote

Adee Posted Friday at 15:39 Posted Friday at 15:39 Here’s my two Sandberg Lionel's Blue one is passive and I’ve fitted a EMG Geezer Butler pick up for a more vintage tone. The Cream is two band active / passive and more modern sounding … 4 Quote

I do sit down once i start to feel a bit achy. Probably too late by then. Studio only has old drum stools to sit on and if back's a bit aching they don't really help a lot. I'd be better sitting on the floor against the wall. I would put the stool against the wall but they have guitar hangars etc at chest height but i might just sit earlier next time rather than wait for my back to ache. TBH its not been so bad over past 6mths since i started doing weight training classes in the gym so that must be working. Dave 3 Quote

Dave Hi Dave,I've been working out for a couple of years, focusing on strengthening my core. I still have limits to what I can lift and carry, but it does help. I feel much better and am more agile than I've been for years. Good luck with your exercise plan. 3 Quote
