Musicman20 Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 Oh my god.... http://bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Musicman_Bongo_5HH_Stary_Night.html No more space for gear, but that is a stunning example of a modern instrument. Quote
Muppet Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 For a Bongo that's really nice. Although I have a Starry Night Sterling 5 so I'm biased.......... Quote
RandomBass Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 Never seen the words 'stunning' and 'Bongo' in the same sentence before. However that does look rather pretty. The headstock shape does still remind me of Peppa Pig's head, though. 1 10 Quote
martthebass Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 Starry night finish.....very special. Would love a Sterling 4H in this finish Quote
Pea Turgh Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 (edited) Ooh, that neck. Flamed and roasted! Edited May 17, 2018 by Pea Turgh Preventative text error 1 Quote

Musicman20 Posted May 17, 2018 Author Posted May 17, 2018 Unfortunately, I think this is quite a good price on a special edition limited model! Does not bode well for the future. Musicman have just had another price hike over in the USA, so expect it to hit here late summer when the instruments come over. A lot of the models have had significant upgrades, and I imagine a normal stock Bongo 5 HH is going to be £2100-2300. Quote
Muppet Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 I priced a new standard Sterling 5HH from my local dealer at £2,200 recently so given this is a special I don't think the price is that bad. Quote
Machines Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 I sold my Bongo 5HS recently for £1300, which I thought was pretty good (I paid a lot less). I know the new prices have gone up a lot recently, but unsure how that translates into any change in sales. Quote

Woodinblack Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 I think they are one of those things that would drop money a lot, you see quite a few bongos around going for a long way below the buying price - one in the marketplace right now. Quote
sumorabbit Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 I bought this instrument from another shop but it went back under warranty as it had a broken pickup and a warped neck (ski ramped high frets), it was deemed non repairable and I was given a refund. It has now found its way back out to market. I asked Bassdirect about it and they said it played beautifully so what do I know eh! Quote
CameronJ Posted May 17, 2018 Posted May 17, 2018 The best thing about this is that roasted flame maple neck! 1 Quote

Ah if this is indeed the same bass, I think we've established why the price is so reasonable... Quote

I bought it 5 weeks ago, it went back 2 days later and I got the news it was fubar a week ago. I doubt there are two of these brand spanky new in the UK! Quote

dannybuoy Posted May 19, 2018 Posted May 19, 2018 Serial looks to be visible on the neck plate, I don't suppose you know what yours was? Quote
Geddys nose Posted May 19, 2018 Posted May 19, 2018 The used Bongo 4 HH has had the neck stripped but the description does not mention it! Quote

Not to detail the thread but it's one thing that I've never liked about Bass Direct, their description on used basses are often well off. Quote

However the brown envelope in the case is opened because I opened it and left a note in there with the faults Quote
