Happy Jack
I've lost count of the number of bands I've rehearsed with or auditioned for at that place. Scuzzy as it was, I'll miss it.
Silvia Bluejay
We got the news from their Facebook page: Survival Studios I'm not sure of the reason why, and they don't mention it in their final post - perhaps to be razed to the ground to build more housing? SH73
Is that a reunion punk band? Very classic looking picture
Silvia Bluejay
Classic photo by yours truly, taken after herding a few cats. The band is Mick's Lawmen, currently dormant.
lojo
I'm sure I used to rehearse there in the 90s if so it's been going a long time
mike f
I rehearsed there in the late 90s. Lots of Trace Elliot amplification, you could smoke in the rooms, of which there were fewer, and then again just a few years ago with the Ashdown amps, cleaner air, more rooms and added sweety machines in reception. Staff were always great, always friendly. Had some good times there. Shame it’s closing.
discreet
So didn't survive, then. Sad news.
chris_b
I spent way too many nights with countless bands in that place. Maybe condemned by the Council, at last.
toneknob
Bit of a dump though wasn't it. And those Behringer bass stacks Good falafels from the cookshop next door though! The whole School Road area has been earmarked for redevelopment into residential buildings. Edited May 30, 2018 by toneknob
Hobbayne
I had my first session there back in 1982. It only had 2 rooms and a pool table. The last time I was there they had lots of rooms. It used to run by a bloke called Simon and his sister IIRC.

I was more worried about being electrocuted because of the extensive damp...
Skol303
Anyone know if they're auctioning off the gear? ...too soon? Sorry
chris_b
They'll have to be giving it away, more like.

skankdelvar
... also when they proudly bought some Marshall VBA stacks which all blew up within about six weeks Edited May 30, 2018 by skankdelvar
Panamonte
Blimey, I thought the name rang a bell. I used to rehearse there about 30 years ago. And did some recording at Triple X studio on the same industrial estate.

Funnily enough I bumped into Simon a year or so after it closed, he's now working as a postman at my delivery office! We had a good chat about the studios, and he said he'd been able to sense it was coming to an end a while before they closed. He'd been there since the 90s.
