Somebody posting a Mexican Fender P bass has wisely painted over the serial number to acquire a matching  headstock. Or have they? Is it a Mex or not?

Hard to tell...all the evidence has been tampered with...wrong tuners, wrong bridge, no s/n....

No, it's not. Why would someone cover up the markings that show it to be genuine. P basses "rare"? Maybe after the Armageddon, when virtually everything has been destroyed...

Most interesting thing to me is the cast brass bridge, which is from a 1980-ish Kasuga, probably a Scorpion. Shame it ended up on this generic whatever-it-is. Worth noting the pickup's not original either - the screw tabs are too small for the scratchplate. Wouldn't be surprised if that came from the same bass as the bridge.

So - bitsa with headstock overpainted - could be anything.
