Jimothey
I'm making a 5 string neck thru single cut at the minute and I'm just doing the neck it's a 34" scale and I'm almost ready to fit the truss rod What size do I need to get? The fretboard is approx 25" do I need one that will go from the nut to the heel of the fretboard? Or because of the construction of it would that be overkill? Norris
It needs to be anchored in the thicker parts of the neck, so yes, within the heel
Woodinblack
I was wondering, not that I am doing it at any time soon, if you have a single cut where the break of the neck is a long way past the 'normal' heal of the neck, does the truss rod need to be the same length? Norris
It depends how flexible the neck is. The truss rod needs to cover the range of the neck that will flex under string tension. If the truss rod isn't long enough you could end up with a bit of a "ski ramp" at the dusty end

That's what I'm thinking because the top horn comes over a third down the length of the neck So surely anything past that point won't be able to be adjusted by the truss rod
