Frank Blank
Can anyone recommend a quality set of flatwounds for a 30" scale Squier Jaguar?
Sibob
I’m running La Bella shortscale flats on my Mustang bass, and tjey’re fantastic. Mine are the Mustang specific flats, which are optimized for through-body stringing, but they obviously make flats for bridge stringing too. Bass Direct have a whole heap here: http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/LaBella_Flatwound_strings.html Si
naxos10
I have used Status short scale flatwounds which seemed pretty good.
casapete
D’Addario Chromes are great for me. Have also used their XL Half Rounds in the past, kind of a half way house between flats and roundwounds.
Matt P
I've just ordered a set of GHS precisions for my new 30" scale Aria, will report back once I've got them fitted, I've been using Chromes for years and really love them but had heard quite a few people raving about the GHS strings and thought i'd take a punt as they're a bit cheaper than the Chromes (buying from Thomann so about 28 quid +p&p)
Kirky
The Thomastiks on my Musicmaster are awesome.

naxos10
It's a pity you have a 4 inline headstock as you could have tried my Status strings. What's the distance from ball end to tuner on the Jaguar?

hooky_lowdown
I literally brought a set of D'Addario ECB81S flats this afternoon. Warm sounding with lots of articulation. Great for rock, blues and soul. This link will help... http://www.shortscalebass.co.uk/short-scale-string-choice

That matches up with the lengths I saw quoted here: https://www.bassstringsonline.com/Bass-String-Lengths-by-Manufacturer_ep_47-1.html Most of the other manufacturers seem to be at 32" from ballend to silk, I find it odd that 35.5" is classed as a short scale string, most makers use 34" for medium scale. Frank Blank
Well I had my Rob Allen Mouse up at Guitar Technical Services for a set up. As Strings Direct is about a mile from my gaff I popped over and got myself a set of La Bella 760N strings to be put on the Mouse when it was being set up. Turns out I bought the wrong size! So I found myself sitting outside Bass Direct at 9:30 this morning waiting for it to open so I could get the correct set and run them over to GTS to complete the set up. Luckily the strings that don’t fit the mouse do fit the Squier so first I’m going to try those.
Matt P
a quick update on the GHS Precision flats, the are indeed the length quoted at 32.5" from ballend to silk, they fit perfectly on my aria, the feel is actually quite good, there is no hint of floppiness, the tension is very similar to 34" scale flats even though the gauges are quite light. they have a good even sound from string to string and a lovely smooth feel. I cant comment on the tone yet as i've only tried them through headphones, i should get to try them through an amp in the next few days. Sibob
I can’t recommend La Bella flats highly enough (obviously the shortscale ones). Just put a set on my Mustang bass and it’s singing! Si
