For sale forum query

In relation to this thread: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=32590

Is it possible to relax the FS forum rules to include the selling of books / dvds and cds? As I said, it seems a detraction to sell exhausts / frying pans, but books / cds / dvds might be a good addition.

What do you think?

Thanks, Joe.

My personal take on it is to keep things bass/band related. So PA, mixers, bass books etc all fine. I draw the line at MP3 players and laptops used for recording. Of course my own stance isn't neccessarily the policy.. let's leave it for others to answer :).

MP3 players and Laptops that are used for recording, by definition, count as “other musically related items” don’t they? I remember seeing a MacBook or 2 on here in the past anyway.
Enabling members to flog things they no longer want to other members, regardless of the item, makes sense to me. It's not like our only interests and hobbies are all bass related, after all.
+1 to that.
Also what about a 'Misc. Wanted' section?

Could be a log in only jobbie.

Members only of course.
I'm up for a misc section for precisely that reason, but I also think it should be for established members to deter people signing up just to sell any old sh*te - y'know, going back to making 50 posts say

I'm personally ambivalent about it. We've operated a fairly loose definition of 'musically related' but have drawn the line at stuff like cars (for loading gear into).

I don't personally see any problem with musically related books, DVD's and CD's but if any members were planning on using the forum for advertising basic household clearance (washing machines, beds, cracked vases, 80's style black ash furniture sets etc) it could be taking a bit of a liberty.

Having said that Toasted, why not put a link in your sig to your own web page containing details of stuff you want to move on?

If it were to be such a high level of postings then maybe it could be made number of postings or length of membership. I've been a member here since the site moved from its previous two locations, but if you took all my posts in one block I still don't think I've made 200.

3 more posts and you have!

I've nearly matched my miserly Bassworld post count on here now. I'd better slow down.

Really? I'm amazed. Was a little over 100 last time I noticed.

Must have something to do with the better half being based back in Asia, and me staying up until 2am to call her at the start of her day. BC just fills in the hours - lol.

I second this. At the end of the day, if we can sell our crap and get money to buy bass gear, everyone wins!

My argument is if we limit it to members that have made a good contribution to the site then we know we have the great basschat community behind us. surely with that added safety more features cant be a bad thing?

Okay, if we are talking a minimum post count of 200 before they are allowed to enter the forum, then yeah okay thats better. But no minimum count would be such a bad idea, you'll get dealers and more spammer problems and it would just ruin basschat

What's to stop spammers using any of the current forums though? I'm sure your average spambot isn't too concerned if their porn site has anything to do with basses.

Considering the site is clearly bass related I doubt many people will join just to sell junk, especially with site like Trade It and Ad Trader etc. It just wouldn't be worth their time. I'm a member of several forums with open for sale sections that don't seem to have any problems like that.
