Ben Jamin
I've had my Barefaced Compact for 6 years and it's been well used! It still sounds amazing but due to being stuffed in with flightcases many, many times and thrown around in games of catch (they literally weigh nothing), the tuff-cab paint finish is pretty worn, it's missing one of it's feet and it's missing a few small chunks of wood. I changed the handle a few years ago with the Barefaced replacement and did a OKish job of it. Anyway it deserves some TLC. I'm thinking off sanding off the paint, covering it in a nice tolex, putting a new grill on and seeing if I can do a better job on the handle. I'd say I'm moderate at DIY. Is this something I should attempt or pay for an expert to do? Worth asking Barefaced if they'd consider taking it in? I'm thinking of making it a bit snazzy with seafoam green and a cane grill? Maybe seeing if I can get a leather handle? https://www.allparts.uk.com/products/tolex-fender-style-seafoam-green-54-inch-width-per-yard https://www.allparts.uk.com/products/grill-cloth-marshall-style-cane-58-inch-wide-per-yard Any thoughts/advice appreciated! BassBunny
Getting the tuff-cab finish flat will be the challenge, depending on how thick it is. I did a similar thing with a Schroeder some years back, here is a posting on how it went. http://www.finnbass.com/showthread.php?t=11136 The most time consuming part was sanding the tuff-cab. It took some time and god knows how many sanding sheets. I was originally going with Tolex but decided on another painted finish, Warnex, same stuff HK Audio use for their PA gear. It is a smooth finish and dead easy to apply. Tolex it shouldn't be too difficult as long as to plan it properly so that the joins are minimal. If you fancy someting different try Abakhan fabrics https://www.abakhan.co.uk/. They sell Leathercloth in loads of different colours and it should be much cheaper than Tolex. I was going to do the Schroeder in Burgundy. Good luck.
Bigwan
Why not repaint it? It'll look like new and be a WHOLE lot easier than tolexing (which I will never do again as long as my ar$e points south!)
JohnDaBass
+1 for repainting with Tuff cab acrylic. I've built two BassChat 1x12 cabs and Tuff cab works really well. Take a look at the Basschat 1x12 build thread as there are some fantastic results from various builders. The blue ones from "Gottastopbuyinggear" (I think) are awesome. A tin goes a long way and you'll have plenty left for future touchups.
