hooky_lowdown Posted June 24, 2018 Posted June 24, 2018 Was given a little fender solid state guitar amp (frontman g15) got it home and turned it on, to find an annoying constant hum. Turned all the pots, hum was the same level, including the volume, with the volume at 0 or 10 the hum was the same. A google search told be these fender amps have a common hum issue from grounding issues. But couldn’t find a conclusive fix. I have zero electrical knowledge, any thoughts what I need to do to stop the hum? Quote
jebroad Posted June 24, 2018 Posted June 24, 2018 Ive got one of these amps too and fixed it 3 too many times. Is there any noise out of it if you plug anything in? Quote

hooky_lowdown Posted June 24, 2018 Author Posted June 24, 2018 Yes, the amp fully works, actually sounds good imho, but the constant hum is really annoying. Quote
jebroad Posted June 24, 2018 Posted June 24, 2018 Could be a slightly dead IC. ive replaced the one in mine twice now, its pretty simple to do. It probably doesn't help that i would put a bass through with gain at 11 Quote

jebroad Posted June 24, 2018 Posted June 24, 2018 Just now, hooky_lowdown said: Did your amp hum when your IC died? Very much so. Theres also no output Quote
hooky_lowdown Posted June 24, 2018 Author Posted June 24, 2018 Ah! My amp does have output. So guess it can't be that. Thanks anyway. Quote
ianrendall Posted June 29, 2018 Posted June 29, 2018 Have a look at D-Lab Electronics on Youtube. He fixes a few amps with hum. Lots of other useful and interesting stuff as well. 1 Quote
