For sale my fretless Fender Custom Shop 1960 Jazz Bass. This one is special:

The bass left the CS as a "standard" 1960 relic, with the exception of the sunburst pattern (the black strip was asked to be a bit wider to be period correct) and it came with the very rare and extremely exclusive Pickups, handwound by Josefina Campos, the direct successor at the Custom shop of the legendary Abigail Ybarra (she made pickups for all the Fender guitar legends). For reference, a set of Josefina Campos strat PUs (if you find one available) retails at over 500 dollars. The bass had two modifications made: 1) It was professionally defretted, and this is the best, cleanest defret job I have ever seen. It does look factory made. And 2) the stacked controls were removed and a high-quality reliced VVT plate was installed, with period correct paper condenser, cloth cables, etc.

This bass is shockingly good. I have owned the CS Jaco relic, and this bass is superior in every aspect. The relic checking is unbeliveable, the action is lower than a Pedulla's or a fretless US Lakland, with no buzzing. The neck relic is simply perfect (similar to a journeyman, but not as dirty). And yes, the tone of the Josefina Campos PUs is great. I would describe as a slightly higher gain pickup with a wider tonal range.

The bass is silly light for a CS (3,7 kg), resonant and perfctly balanced. Ant it comes with all the candy, tags, COA, picks, cable, strap, chrome covers... All unused. Like new OHSC.

My price is 2100 EUR. If you like old style Fenders and you play fretless, I don't think they get much better than this.

I've been asked about the tone of this bass several times. It has the closest tone to my original 62 of all the jazz basses I've had, with a bit more general output. I found a short video I made some time ago. Back then I had installed an old stacked control plate and a tort guard, but it's the same bass and it sounds identical with the current VVT controls. My fretless skills are very limited and this is recorded with a cheapo mobile phone. Even so you can hear the great tone of these pickups and woods combination. If I recall correctly, the pickup blend used in the video is mostly bridge with a bit of neck. The bass sounds legendary in any pickup combination in my opinion.
