Holt-85
So, basically my basses are mainly 5 string. I'm after a new 4 string and have seen the ESP-LTD B-204FM on GAK for just £232, pre-orders at the minute, spoke to them stock due within 2 weeks. My question is: anybody own one, and if so, what are they like? Any experience, good or bad? All advice appreciated. ForestPoetry
I owned a fretless 5-string in the spalted Maple finish. It looked nice, felt nice, played nice and the basic tone of it was decent. The pre-amp however was totally underwhelming, seemed voiced more for a guitar than a bass to be honest. Turning the bass boost all the way up to get it to sound like a bass is not the way forward IMO.
geoffbyrne
I have a B-206FM as above and agree with the comments above about the pickups & pre. However, I put some firm foam under the pickups and moved them much nearer the strings. While not an absolute cure - I think replacing the pre is necessary, it has improved the tone substantially - enouch to gig it anyway. G.
