markdavid
Have ordered a set of these as money is tight and I cant be forking out the kind of money most flats go for now (£47.99 for a set of Chromes, that's crazy) and they do an 95-40 gauge, just wondering if anyone here has tried these and if so what are they like tone and tension wise ? thanks
rushbo
I've got a set (40-100, I think) on one of my bitsas. They're ace. They're not as high tension as some flats (I find the Fender ones to be really stiff) and they've got a nice, rounded old school tone. Jean-Luc Pickguard
I put a double ball set of picato flats on my '86 hohner B2A as they were the only double ball ones I could find at the time - probably about 15 years ago & they're still going strong. They sound pretty much like you'd expect flats to sound, and the surface is very smooth.
The59Sound
Same string as Status Hotwire Flats before Picato went out of business.

fretmeister
Strings Direct, Andertons, Thomann, Amazon have various of their products - guitar strings / bass / uke etc. Still shown on Strings And Things distributor page too. Why do you say they went out of business?
Jimbogubson
I tried some on recommendation and they definitely have that old school vibe going on. Very slick too compared to chromes and EB cobalts. I would have kept them on but not really suited to the pub covers band I'm in. If I was in a Motown covers band they'd be perfect!
Mykesbass
Well the Facebook page shows they are still active - https://www.facebook.com/Picato-Musicians-Strings-163194437126796/ I had a set - great price, great sound. Only complaint was that I found the winding started to peel very slightly, leaving some flaky patches.
fretmeister
No recent posts on the FB page though. Odd.
