Always reminds me of hot, sweaty nights.....

Quincy Jones cover of ‘Summer In The City” (Chuck Rainey on Bass).

'The Extremist' and 'Flying in a blue dream' by Joe Satriani always signal summer to me. I did my work experience with the local police force when I was 15, and because my mam worked for the force, she had prepared packed schedule for me visiting different stations and departments all over the force. It was the height of summer and I had those CD's on repeat in her car as she drove me all over the place! Takes me back to those sunny times whenever I hear them.

Terrific record, this.

It perfectly distils the experience of the hot city street; searching for shade, checking out the girls, the pneumatic drill of the road workers, waiting for the cool of the night. Brilliant.

Ooh and that album by John schofield , however you spell it. The cover has a city rooftops themed type picture at night and I think there’s a song on it called watch out for popo .

also fat alberts rotunda and similar herbie Hancock type stuff
