Hughes And Kettner Bassforce XXL combo

Picking up one of these on Saturday.

It’s only up the road and it was cheap.

It looks to be in ok condition - the foam on the grill is a bit tatty, but a google shows there’s a metal one underneath.

Does anyone have experience of these? Just wanted loud, decent and an XLR out - also has an Extension speaker out.

H&K stuff is usually well built and decent. If it was cheap, I'd be surprised if you're disappointed, provided it works OK. You can get that acoustically transparent foam very cheaply on eBay if you fancy recovering the grille.

Sounds good, pretty heavy but not bad with side handles. The foam disintegrated on me taking the cover off so will explore options.

I’d be tempted to remove the big bit of black plastic with Hughes & Kettner so you could have just one big square of grey/silvery grill cloth. It’d look pretty 50’s I reckon!

It’s part of the aluminium faceplate - not a separate piece. Which is a shame. Like the idea of silver cloth though

So, the grille underneath was a little rusty/pitted.

I’m going to sand it back to metal and then see what takes my fancy. Either a coat of spray or a re-foam.

Interestingly there’s no tolex on this combo, just a thick coating of paint. Some areas could do with a touch up.
