Defo Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 I buy a bass every year, max spend 2K. Always appreciate the thoughts of Basschat members, what should I go for? Cheers Andy. Quote
LukeFRC Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 What’s left on your GAS list? I found it quite it quite good to write out a list of all the basses I wanted to try/own - I think I’ve had all but two models on the list... Quote
Lozz196 Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 If I were spending money on a collection it would be comprised of: Fender Precision & Jazz, Musicman Stingray, Gibson Thunderbird, Rickenbacker 4001. I`d probably look at a semi-acoustic bass as well, but no idea which. Quote
Sibob Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 I’d save for 3-4 years and get a Fodera or (insert uber priced brand here) Si 2 Quote
josie Posted July 8, 2018 Posted July 8, 2018 What do you have already? How far do you want to experiment? What kind of music do you want to play? Try a hollow-body or semi-hollow-body. My 1966 Gibson EB2 cost about £2k - fair price - and she's changed the whole visceral experience of playing bass. The physical resonance of that thin body combined with the growl and punch of the sound are like nothing you'll ever get from any solid-body or any acoustic. Quote
LukeFRC Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 Go really different - get a trumpet or other brass instrument. Quote
uk_lefty Posted July 10, 2018 Posted July 10, 2018 Give it to charity. You don't know how to spend it so it give it to someone who does. Only joking, get on the phone to the Fender Custom Shop and make them build you something like a Gibson Thunderbird. 1 Quote
