SEI original four

I got this in a trade with Nonkel26 (Dirk) through this forum. Great guy to deal with and shows just how fantastic this community is, as recent events have demonstrated.









Specs:

[*]Ebony board
[*]Ebony/flamed maple neckthrough
[*]Bartolini pups and pre.

Not sure what the top wood is. Maple with an amber stain perhaps? Looks gorgeous anyaway.

Sounds like a very refined jazz oddly enough.

There's an awesome black headless Sei 4 in the gallery at the moment. Sounds gorgeous, light as a feather and the neck is near perfect with super, super low action.

That Sei has a lovely back side. You can't beat a Status, IMHO.

Great to be an owner of a Sei bass Thanks for the heads up on the other thread too Mark. I'll wander over there. I'll also try to dig up some pics of my last Sei bass- flamboyant six fretless.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy I kept it. It'll make a nice contrast to the Sei which is obviously far more mellower. The Status will take yer head off and begs to be smanked by comparison. Definitely a bass thats worth a refurbishment to restore to its former glory. New hardware and fretdress is a must with possibly a high gloss laquer added. The walnut body wood is pretty good lucking for what is supposed to have a been a budget line Status!. And maybe a new Status pre.

No problem.

The first Sei I ever played was a 6 string fretless. That experience led me down the slippery slope to Sei bass ownership over a decade later!

And what exactly is everyone's problem with the headstock shape? I think that's rather elegant and a good deal more attractive than those found on many more popular basses...

+1. I could go on and on listing basses with hideous headstocks but Sei basses would not be on my list. Horses for courses and all that....

Crazykiwi, what sort of ballpark tonally is that 4 in? Any idea what the woods are? The pic on the site is unfortunately rather poor...

Thanks Bro,already seen it,I prefer natural woods though,and to top it all off,I have to sink probably £750 into work I want doing to my 1994 Widow bass,but thanks anyway

He should be , I was a twat for selling mine. Took me 3 years to find the 3000 that replaced it.

The Original is not my favourite shape but that is just gorgeous (and I don't have a problem with the headstock shape) - congratulations. The headless six is jaw-dropping!

I'm not sure what the woods are but it feels like the neck could be maple and wenge and the lightness of the body suggests maybe wings of swamp ash. To me it had the growl of a status series 2000 but with a less aggressive attack and a smidgin more warmth.

I told Alex that if it was a 5 string, I would have bought it without hesitation.

If you're talking about the black headless 4 string Sei Original, then I completely agree. I had a play on it a couple of months ago and was seriously smitten by it. Took me over a month to stop thinking about it and what body parts I could sell off to purchase it. I think that bass should come with a health warning for the lack of sleep you'll get after playing it.

Thanks! Hmm, may have to give that a go when I'm down at Xmas, assuming it's still there and the Gallery is open.
