Jaime Tortosa Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 I want to know what's your favorite bass solo. I let you two of my favorites: Quote
bassaussie Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 Robert Palmer's cover of "Early in the Morning". The bass is amazing all the way through the song, then there's this blistering solo that comes from nowhere! It's around 3:20. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZyD_b3xSzI And this guy does a great job of breaking it all down. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pQHRInI8pY Quote
ezbass Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 (edited) Andy Fraser’s solo on Mr Big from the Free Live album; not technically difficult, but superb build and note choice. Edited July 11, 2018 by ezbass 6 Quote
Conan Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 Generally speaking I don't like bass solos. And this track is not exactly a "solo" anyway... 2 Quote
P-ZARN Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 This version of Mr Big is by far the best This was on the 'Free Story' album Quote
fleabag Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 Intonation slightly out up at the dusty end 2 Quote
paul_5 Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 I’ve always had a soft spot for Billy Gould’s effort on ‘Kindergarten’ by Faith No More: https://g.co/kgs/DQQKMa 2 Quote

I used to listen to that album all the time. What a crackin‘ solo. Quote
chris_b Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 Willie Weeks on Donny Hathaway's Voices Inside is a favourite, as is Dexter Redding playing The Awakening. 2 Quote
PawelG Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 https://pendofsky.bandcamp.com/track/psychobaton The guitar solo is super cool too. Quote

fleabag Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 Agreed - i have a JT album with that track. I also sold Glen a bass neck he bid on that i listed on Scambay 1 Quote
Happy Jack Posted July 11, 2018 Posted July 11, 2018 All American Alien Boy by Ian Hunter, maybe 60 seconds in. That's the young and unknown Jaco Pastorius more-or-less announcing his arrival. I bloody hate everything about Jaco and his music, except that solo. Quote
Dad3353 Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Then you might appreciate this from the master Casady (let it build up; it's worth it...)... Quote
visog Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Jaco - 'Havona' on 'Heavy Weather' (see parallel Fretless album thread) Chris Squire - 'Does It Really Happen?' on 'Drama' Jimmy Johnson - 'Pud Wud' on Allan Holdsworth's 'Sand' Still very fond of Stanley Clarke - 'School Days'. More recently, virtually anything by Hadrien Feraud. 1 Quote
visog Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Oh and let's throw Jeff Berlin a bone: 'Water on the Brain' from Allan Holdsworth's 'Road Games' 1 Quote
grumpyguts Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Enough of the twiddly derrière nonsense... Lemmy - Stay Clean. 2 Quote
Thunderbird Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 I can think of any solos off the top of my head 😕 Quote
lowdown Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 I like all the usual (and unusual) Bass solos from over the decades; Jaco, Patitucci and the rest of them etc. Slow/fast there is usually something to keep me interested. Just too many to list really. 1 Quote
