Brian Ritchie - Violent Femmes, no love?

I consider this guy one of my main influences yet I rarely see his name mentioned here...is it just something I’m not noticing or is he terminally overlooked?

Or does Gordon Gano’s voice prevent people from liking the band enough to notice?

Just revisiting their back catalogue and it amazes me he’s not hailed a bass hero more.

(the end is the killer bit)

Nice solo -

there’s so much to go at with it all, he’s musical and dynamic.

and mostly achieved upon an eartwood acoustic bass...

Saw the VFs a few times back in the mid to late 80s.  Think he was playing Maton acoustic back then.  I like them, their version of Children of the Revolution is awesome but the first couple of albums are very good too.

He was one of the guys who made me want to play bass in the first place.

Those first two Femmes albums in particular are simply timeless. Love them!

We used to cover Blister and Country Death Song in my old band. It felt like living the dream 😊

cult band, fantastic playing, I too often wondered why not much mention of his playing, and I think they're not mainstream enough but also, they way he plays, it's just got that feel that I find difficult/impossible to replicate, sure you can play a cover of blister in the sun but there are lots of tunes where you go 'wait, what? how..?'

unique, superb band doing their thing, one of the greats

They were a band me and my mates liked back in the 80s. Aside from Blister in The Sun I couldn`t name any of their other material but in that long hot summer - or so it seemed at the time - of 86, the VFs were always on one of our car stereos.
