Hi,

I currently have a Ibanez 300e and a Squire P Bass and I’m looking at getting an upgrade to my collection. I’ve looked at Fenders (Mim) and Ibanez but I like the look of 2 Yamaha’s the B.B. 434 and 734. They play great but I don’t know anything about them or anyone who has one?

Are these good basses? Any advice? I really like the 734 the most!

cheers

Hey Dave - welcome to BC!

You'll find quite a lot about Yamaha basses on this thread, which is worth a read.

There has been a lot of praise for the Yamaha BB734/5; it's an excellent bass for the money, even better if you can find a decent one second hand.

Whereabouts are you based? If you're passing by central London anytime then the Yamaha Store will have these in stock for you try out - or there may be a BCer closer to where you live who has one of these and would be more than happy for you to pop round.

Hi Daveox,

I'm new to Basschat too. I've have a Yamaha BB434 since december last year & can confirm that it is exceptionally well-made, great sounding bass.

I'm sure that you'll get lots of joy from of your 734!

All the best!

Hugh

A very happy BB735 player here! Such a versatile bass and such a delight to play. I set the amp at the beginning of the gig and make running sound adjustments on the 735 as required, from poppy jazz sounds through to thumpy P,  it has it all covered. Fantastic! Enjoy!

Welcome to the forum Dave.

Regarding the models, both are fantastic for their price points. Main difference is in the hardware and one being active (active pickups) and the other passive.

I'd favour the 700 range if its easily in your price range. Even used by the likes of Mr Peter Hook himself, a renowned Yamaha artist 😉

Any questions, feel free to message me. Enjoy the forum in the meantime 😁

Hi mate.

Sorry to hijack the thread slightly but I was just wondering how you got on with the Ibanez 300e?

I'm kind of just starting out again and I don't want to spend a load of money on gear. I was looking at the Ibanez. They look quite decent for a low price bass.

Cheers

Sorry for late reply, the 300e is an excellent guitar and really great value. In my opinion a good all round instrument.

If you buy one you won’t be disappointed
