LewisK1975 Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 Been considering a dual MM Pup bass for some time. I know I prefer the feel of precision shaped basses, but can find myself liking the sound of other types of Basses. A look through the limelight gallery on the Classic and cool website showed this! Whilst I would change a few things aesthetically and probably have a preamp onboard, it's about as close as I've seen to what's in my head... I wonder what clever sort got their hands on that! 1 Quote
fretmeister Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 Sandberg did that years ago. VM2 model. 1 Quote
ead Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 I have an ACG version. Top rock bass (for me at any rate). 1 Quote
Bigwan Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 Been tempted by a double 'bucker P myself, although more along the lines demonstrated by this fine looking Lull: 3 Quote

E sharp Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 The trouble is , is that all of the double Stingray pickup'd basses , all have the rear pickup way too far back - so not getting that 'Stingray sweetspot' . The only mainstream maker that I've seen 'dong it right' (subjective, I know) , is Warwick, with the Doublebuck 4 Quote

Here's a great vid of a Bass which Carey Nordstrand made for Justin Chancellor (I think Chancellor ultimately rejected it), but it shows that you can get pretty darn close to the Wal tone, without paying £5k+ for it..Be sure to listen with headphones / good speakers! Really lightweight, lovely neck and incredibly versatile tonally- in large part because each pickup is switchable between series/parallel/single coil. I love it but it’s nowhere near a precision shape so that may be a dealbreaker for the OP. Edited August 2, 2018 by CameronJ Quote
Muzz Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 Oooo, Nordstrand...I have a single Bigman pickup in one of my Shukers, it's basically two Big Singles, and I have it three-position-switched for single coil (front coil), parallel and rear coil (series was just wayyyy too mental) - it's a great pickup in a MM shell. Now then...a nice light P with two of these and the switching/controls of that MTD (two 3-way switches, plus blend)? Bwahahahaaaaa.... 😀 1 1 Quote

I was actually toying with the idea of putting 2 Bigmans (Bigmen?) in my MTD for a while. Quote
Grahambythesea Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 Why’s the neck on back to front on the Limelight? Must make tuning awkward. There was a reason why Leo designed 4 on one side. Quote
Cuzzie Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 I love a reverse headstock Tuning is a breeze Quote

I think it'll be so that the lowest string will have the longest distance between bridge and tuning peg, whilst not increasing tension (as that is measure between the bridge and nut) it increases (or decreases?) compliance, which is like tension. Or so I've read in the past. Quote

TheGreek Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 What you really want is an Enfield with the SimS system installed. You get J/P/H options and combinations. The pick ups are available individually - a bit pricey but if you're planning on keeping the bass, it's money well spent. After all, who's more deserving than ourselves?? 2 Quote
