Have you consulted a medical professional because no GAS is not normal 😜

After chopping and changing my basses for years, I realised, that I had three really nice instruments that probably couldn't be bettered. Would rather spend the energy on playing/practicing/improving.

I tend to buy basses for specific projeccts as i've never found one bass that does it all for me. My Jazz coming closest to it and i'll see how the Sandberg gets on over the next year. Who knows i may still end up with a standard American P bass xD

I have my Musicman Sterling and a Geddy Lee Jazz which I keep meaning to get around to selling.

Personally I only need 1 bass for everything. I would have to be doing something pretty specialised (like playing in a Kiss tribute band) to warrant getting anything else

Six long scale fretted (1 round wound passive, 1 flats passive, 3 active, 1 five string)

One short scale

One electro acoustic

Two fretless

One Electric Upright

One Uke bass

so 12 I guess.  I used to try an rationalize them - I needed a backup, I need to switch to flats for one song etc but  I kept going beyond what I could justify!

Plus two keyboards, one acoustic guitar, three octave mandolas, one mandolin, a bunch of whistles, two melodicas (and other bits that don't get played much anymore).

A bad case of gas (and not just for Basses!)

What is the combined value of that collection and where the hell do you store them all ????!!!!!

Probably just under £60K. Rotated in and out (as required) of very secure private storage!

Two. The one I mostly play and the first one I got. Which I still play sometimes so it doesn't get sad.

I get attached and anthropomorphise things a lot... :D I  don't think I could cope with having lots of basses, I  think instruments die if they don't get played... :D

Exactly the same. Thinking like this sets you up for a world of pain though :(

Basses have personalities & characters. Plus, they are generally nicer than peoples. :)

Why do people have so many?! Is it a conscious decision, or something that just happened over time?

In my case definitely a conscious decision. Playing bass is my passion as I'm guessing it is for everyone on this forum.

Basses are lovely instruments to own and to play. In terms of where my money is spent I can think of far worse things than spending on my main hobby / passion. I largely buy used and in vgc these days (only two / 10 of my current herd were bought new) and I find that, provided I look after them, they hold their value. Each one of mine brings something a little different to the party.

Oh and I've got 10 (one addition to the herd, as of yesterday :))

4 Yamahas (BB425, BB1025, BB735A, BBNE2)

3 Ibanez (SR1825, SRF705, SR1206)

3 'Other' (Stagg EUB, Schecter Stiletto 8, Squier Bass VI)
