THE BASS IS WORKING 100%, Maude pointed me to the Volume Knob to change models

Time to make some room as I have gathered too many Basses and nearing retirement so cash is needed 😂

So here we have my Variax bass in very good condition with very light home use, comes with the charger, lead, booklet and battery holder for AA batteries

You probably know about these basses so I will skip the the details and some good Utube videos showing the possibilities of models that can be obtained

The only thing wrong with it and its been like that since I got it several years ago is the Model select knob, when the light is in the green position you have 12 model variations and when pressed it goes to red for the other

1 Fender 1961 Jazz, 2 2004 Fender Jazz Deluxe, 3 63 P bass, 4 Music-man Stingray, 5 71 Ricky, 6 66 dan electro Longhorn, 7 63 thunderbird, 8 2002 MTD, 9 78 Alembic, 10 68 Hagstrom, 11 2003 Tacoma , 12 Synth Moog Minimoog Bass

12 models,, lovely sounds and quite accurate for this Bass.

Looks good lying there on her beach Towel

The bass has all 24 Models working, Maude pointed out that I was pressing the wrong knob to change over the selector, so happy days, back to £320 delivered to all UK addresses as I was allowing for a faulty switch and the lack of Models

Great price! Nice playing basses these - and apart from the synth sounds, very useable.

And the synth sounds are good - just need to adapt your playing a bit.

Played the prototypes and should’ve bought one.

alas. No funds this week.

Very interested as those are the perfect companion to my Line6 POD XT BASS Live, with built in emulations that are fully compatible with the Variax basses.

Not that the price is too high, but short on cash for the moment, unless a trade is possible ?

Regardnig the Red/Green : from the User Manual :

RED/GREEN SELECT But even a control as simple a volume offers you more on the Variax Bass. If you press the Volume knob down, you'll notice the light near the MODEL SELECT knob changes color. When the Indicator is green, the first, or “green,” variation of that MODEL SELECT position is active. When it’s red, you’ve got a second, “red” variation of the Model instead

And, i think the full list of basses is :

Variax Bass 700 Models based on*:

  • 1961 Fender® Jazz Bass®
  • 1960 Fender® Jazz Bass® with flatwound strings
  • 2004 Fender® Deluxe Jazz Bass®
  • Fretless 1961 Fender® Jazz Bass®
  • 1963 Fender® Precision Bass®
  • 1958 Fender® Precision Bass® with flatwound strings
  • 1977 Music Man® Sting Ray®
  • 2003 Modulus® Flea Bass
  • 1971 Rickenbacker® 4001
  • 1963 Rickenbacker® 4001 with flatwound strings
  • 1966 Danelectro® Longhorn Bass
  • 1963 Höfner® Model 500/1 with flatwound strings
  • 1963 Gibson® Thunderbird 4
  • 1966 Gibson® EB-2D with flatwound strings
  • 2002 MTD® 535 35-inch scale
  • 2003 Warwick® Thumb
  • 1978 Alembic Long Scale
  • 1984 Steinberger® XL2
  • 1968 Hagström® H8
  • 1994 Hamer® B12A
  • 2003 Tacoma® Thunderchief
  • 1949 Kay® M-1
  • Inspired by classic Moog MiniMoog bass sounds
  • Inspired by modern bass synth sounds

From your description it would seem that you're pressing the model select knob to change from red to green, try pressing the volume knob. The model select knob being pressed is to memorise the tone settings for that model. It could be working perfectly.

That's a very good price BTW.

Thanks Maude, you are spot on and I found the book today that explains exactly as you say. Life saver

If it’s fully working that’s a great price.

embroiled in refund/replacement purchase hell as we speak but someone’s getting a bargain.

I know Andy, I reduced it to reflect what I thought was a faulty switch 😪

I’m sure the Basschat gang wouldn’t hold it against you if you made a revision to reflect that. Nobody wants to see people lose out unnecessarily.
