Wow. This is sad news.

I first heard her songs as a teenager standing in clubs waiting for the bands like John Mayall and Geno to come on. Sad news.

I know she'd been ill for quite a while but nevertheless still such a shock - am so saddened by the news.

Aretha was THE female soul voice of our time, and she leaves behind a legacy of simply wonderful music.

RIP Aretha.

Lovely post from Eric Clapton on social media -

So Sad...
Privileged to have lived and breathed the same air, at the same time that her music healed the earth.... ec

RIP Lady Soul.

I've always been a fan of her late 60's-mid-70's albums, every one a classic.

The records will be with us, to be played, and to inspire, for many years to come.

As I parked on my drive yesterday evening, 6 Music on the stereo, Mark Riley opened his show with Natural Woman. I had to just sit, listen and shed a tear or two, what a great song by such a legend of a singer.

RIP Aretha
